Miner’s Cottage

Our home amongst the roses

Miner’s Cottage

Sleepy little town amongst the hills
and green valleys of the shire
a miner’s cottage caught my eye
newly restored, yet remaining as old
as the history it contains
the silent, dense presence of it
unconcealed, surrounded me
as real as though I could reach out
and touch it
whisperings, from the past
yet not dim and distant
they spent their lives here
lived, loved and died here
and I, an intruder
being inspected, watched
not knowing the reception
but loving the cottage, making my home
finally an overwhelming sense
of acceptance, smiles
past and present reconciled

  1. written beautifully Shirley. I love old cottages, houses – to think of how the lives were lived there, who they were, possitively intriguing.

  2. Perfectly written, Shirley. It reminds me when I was young, growing up in a Miner’s housing complex. Unfortunately the houses belonged to state government so no body can own permanently. Thank you.

    1. Thanks, I always enjoy your posts too! The cottages are all privately owned here. This one was once a bed and breakfast holiday letting, so it is perfectly restored. I love both the cottage and the garden. 🙂

      1. Yes, I love that view of the garden as well. That is very lovely shot. 🙂

  6. Love it Shirley, it takes time to settle into a new town, and I’m happy you feel part of it now. We like you and Nigel living here.
