The Big Pineapple at Nambour

The Big Pineapple

This tourist attraction used to be a favourite of visitors who came to the Sunshine Coast for holidays.  It was also a favourite place for local families to take their children.  We took our boys there several times over the years.   There was an animal nursery, train rides, cafe, and lots of lovely shops.  The restaurant was popular and the food was always good.  In fact we were lunching there with another family many years ago when we heard on the TV  that  Princess Diana had died.  They say you never forget where you were on those kind of occasions, it is true.  We visited the Big Pineapple again today.  It is just beginning to get back into trading again after a very long period when it was closed.  Only the cafe was open today but they hold markets there every Saturday.  At the cafe we enjoyed a banana split which was so beautiful and yummy with fresh cream and Macadamia nut ice cream.  It was big enough that we shared it between us.  The animal farm is still there, but without animals.  The train tracks are still there, but no train was running today.  Here are the photos we took:

  1. That so took me back Shirley, when my parents took me and then when I took my girls – Aussie Icons – thank you.
